Traditional tourism?

The kung fu school that I train at, Ching Wu Athletic Association here in Winnipeg, Canada, switched to having a mainly shaolin curriculum two years ago. Since we've spent countless hours learning both the Bak Sil Lum and Songshang sets, finding numerous versions along the way. Which one is the right one? We are sending our Sigung to China to train at the Temple and settle the Bak Sil Lum set(we are very confident about the Songshang set). Our head intructor has recently travelled to Canada's East and West coast, going to different kung fu schools along the way. This question was raised and I think it would make for a great shaolin kung fu disscusion. Has the huge amount of tourism changed Shaolin's Kung Fu? Are we really practicing the "real traditional stuff"? How would we know?

Hi everyone. I decided to join this community because I have a bit in common with it. :]

For eight years i trained tae kwon do, and due to school work, i quit when i was 17. However, after i quit, i started to get into chinese kungfu, and shaolin in particular. But there were no kungfu schools where i lived, so i had to move somewhere to get to a school. Not knowing where to move to, i decided, "Hell with it, why not go all the way?" So i moved to china. Now i live in china and i train shaolin kungfu for 12 hours a day except sunday. It is the time of a life, and i am learning so many amazing things. If you want any more information, you can view my livejournal, i post every few days about my experiences in china :]

Ay Ay Ay Mucha Lucha!!!

Heyo everyone! I just started wushu(lohan) 7 months ago(i think...time flys when you're having fun. feels fore like 2 months) I also take the five elders(fist) system. I train under Sigung David Cliffe and Sifu Brice (mrr....don't know last name!) Is anyone interested in drunken style? I know...it's not for girls but I don't care! it's so goofy and cool, and challenging ~.^!! For any other girls who want to learn drunken i'm currently developing a margarita style (which is exactly like drunken just with a couple different weapons and moves changed) Do you trust my credibility?!?!(you shouldn't i'm not good at all)
All joking aside I love wushu,and would also love to talk to anyone who is a passionate about it as I am.
I know I sound scary but don't worry I don't bite. That's against the rules. -.-;

Hey Peeps :)

HEya, I just joined thousandbuddha and haven't introduced myself yet :)
I am Xandra (aka Ghostgirl aka Baby-Jee-Jee), a 18-year old girl from the Netherlands. I started with wushu a few months ago. At the same time I also started Tai Chi and about a month later my teach convinced me to also start on Mulan sword haha.
Anyway I'm not good at wushu yet haha but I hope I will be someday :)
In the summer I also trained with a good friend of mine who's been practising for about 3 years now (he's pretty good!), but now it's winter over here and it's too cold to train outside for me :< We tried looking for some space to rent but it's all too expensive :< In the summer we could just train outside on a basketballfield :)
At the moment I train wushu once a week, more to maintain what I've learned so far, and I hope I can go back to training with my friend again in the summer :) We'd go as often as we could find the time and I really learned a lot from him.
Well dunno what to write else for now, hope to read some posts here soon :)

Well, here we are. I've made this community to discuss kung fu, Ch'An Buddhism and Shaolin Temple. Sadly, I'm all alone.
